Miles Polaski is a freelance sound and projection designer based in Los Angeles and working all over the country.  Previously, Miles lived and worked in NYC, and before that, he was the resident sound designer for 4 seasons at the Barter Theatre in Abingdon, Virginia. At the Barter, Miles created sound and projection designs for over 65 productions.

Before his years at the Barter, Miles worked as a freelance designer, composer, musician, and DJ in Chicago, where he was also the resident sound designer with 2nd Story and Collaboraction. Among his many awards and citations, he received the 2010 Joseph Jefferson Award for his design of Red Tape Theatre‘s Mouse in a Jar, directed by William Davis. Miles has had the pleasure of collaborating on many shows with some of Chicago’s best theatre companies, including Steppenwolf, Chicago Dramatists, The Gift Theatre, Steep Theatre, The Goodman, and Fox Valley Rep.

Miles’s designs are set apart by his artistic specificity and ability to manipulate sonic atmospheres and sound effects as storytelling devices — these are the qualities that lead Hedy Weiss of the Chicago Sun-Times to refer to him as “Sound Master Miles Polaski.”  Miles often composes original music as part of his designs, which further enhances his ability to tailor every design to the needs of each production.  He enjoys writing and playing folk, classical, and electronic music.  Miles also produces music mash-ups, creates interactive audio/visual pieces, and works sporadically as a professional DJ.

Miles is a member of the Theatrical Sound Designers and Composers Association.
